Title: A Potential Political Dimension of Foucault’s Sadomasochism Concept
Abstract:I will explore the relationship between sadomasochism and power, drawing on Michel Foucault’s theory. Sadomasochism is often viewed as a pathology, but it can also be seen as a tool for analyzing contemporary power dynamics. Foucault’s concepts of power, discipline, and repression will be examined, and I will argue that sadomasochism can be a form of “transgression” and “subversion” that challenges traditional power structures. Additionally, I will introduce the concept of “pleasant obedience” in sadomasochistic relationships, where the submissive individual can exert influence over the dominant partner without undermining their authority. The aim of this analysis is to provide a new framework for examining contemporary power dynamics and redefining Foucauldian concepts such as power, dispositif, and resistance.
